What horsepower would you recommend the engine be set at for pulling 48,000 lb?

I would go with a 430/500hp and 1650 torque set up

The Pre-EGR 14l engine was first available in the 1999 model year trucks. It OFFICIALLY end with the 2001 model year trucks, but Pre-EGR, pre-ordering trucks as late as very early 2003 had them. I personally have never seen a Pre-EGR 14l in anything other than a Freightliner Classic. The BIG engine was set by the factory @ 575hp & 1850tq. I drove a Detroit Diesel test truck with that engine coupled to an 18 spd, running 3.55's while a company driver @ Werner back in 1999. TRUCK WAS A OUTSTANDINGLY FUN TO DRIVE!!! Mpg's avgd mid 6's to low 7's, and NOOOO, the truck wasn't governed @ 65 either. I looked at buying a used 2001 Classic with said engine several years ago that had stupid LOW mileage. Didn't because of non-engine related issues. Ended up buying my current & won't ever sell it 1999 Peterbilt 379exhd, 70" Bed & Breakfast sleeper truck w/a factory DDEC-IV 500hp 12.7 coupled to a 13spd & running 3.55's. I avg. mid 6's to low 8's depending on load & weather conditions driving all over the Midwest pulling a 53' reefer. Performance upgrades include a Full Tilt exhaust manifold, Full tilt Stage 2 "tweaked" BW 171702 non-wastgate turbo & a turbo blanket. I REALLY NEED a good tune to maximize the full potential of the upgrades, but there isn't anyone around the Midwest I know of who can do a reliable job. I know Mr. Leon is probably the best out there, based on people who talk about him on this board, but he's back East somewhere that I don't run to. Any suggestions would be appreciated guys!
