It's a simple DOT physical and drug test. Takes maybe 10 minutes.
Probably pass easily if your blood pressure is ok.
Tell the recruiter you may be off a little on the work dates. No big deal as long as you're being truthful.

 

You're going about it right; just kick back and relax and you'll be ok.
Hopefully, some other drivers will respond and give you some helpful hints.
I love that coast to coast refrigerated trucking. Did it for 18 years and never got tired of it. I'm a Vet also, and really enjoyed the solitude of night driving on those long coast to coast runs.

Im new to this site also and looking to obtain my CDL and get started in the career like you. The only difference between us is: I have over 20 years on you (53) but Ive never let my age discourage me or make me believe like "im too old" for this or that. 18 wheelers are 30 times easier to back than a jet ski trailer. Shorter the trailer, the easier it is to jackknife. That’s common knowledge

 

Signing on with Swift, you'll have a contract and you're stuck with them for a year. I'd recommend using your GI Bill and getting your CDL that way. You'll get the BAH Stipend while your doing that as well. You're likely to run into recruiters at whatever school you go to aswell. Check the companies out on here, ask around, pick what is right for you. After that you can use the VA OJT benefit and collect a couple grand a month from that while you're in training and such. This is what I'm doing, anyways. Do what you feel is best.

 

I generally leave out criticizing a company unless they set my hair on fire, but I got interested in your thread and feel compelled to urge you to Not do Swift. So many better options. So many reasons to not be a swift driver. Just Don't, Son.
