Illinois CDL test facility recommendations

I did have a Cdl holder on the road and also when I practiced the skills maneuvers in the truck yard.

I certainly hope it won’t cause a problem since I’m learning based off of reading the actual Illinois CDL handbook, and a lot of YouTube videos lol.

 

I’m now definitely considering it, especially if I fail my test. At first I figured I’d be in a better position if I got my Cdl first then apply to companies, didn’t realize it’s this difficult. I didn’t find much on companies hiring and willing to train, so thanks for the links.

 

I’m mechanically inclined and have studied the pre inspection procedure and parts. I’m confident I know how check everything and know the components, especially the air brake test. I was more worried about not being able to memories a specific word or phrase that is in the book that the inspector wants to hear. Example, I’ve read of people being failed just because they called the “air indicator” an “air gauge”.

 

I’ve searched but came up short. I think I read somewhere on this forum that Illinois does not allow third party testers, but that could be wrong.

 

I’ve spoken to a few drivers in Illinois that were taught from friends or family and just go and take the test. They say they passed because after a few tries they finally were able to get a nicer more lenient tester and got lucky. I will still look into FMCSA. Thanks for the advice!

 

I’ve heard just terrible things about most of the examiners at Elk Grove.

One guy told me he had luck with Rockford and that they were nice. Just looking for multiple opinions from drivers so I can make a better guess on where to go. Thanks for the input on West Chicago.
