I just got one, too.
It works good enough for me on the stock Volvo antenna setup in my truck. It's already helped me out of a couple bad traffic snarls.
I ran without CB for years, and now that I'm back trucking, I can't imagine being without anymore.
I would like to add a 2 meter. I'm licensed, but a new ham radio is on the back burner.
I'm curious, though. Is there a "trucker channel" on 2 meter? I remember reading in the trucking mags about 10 years ago that hams who were fed up with the BS on the CB were trying to get that started.Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -

The antenna is the most important part of three components, the radio, the coax and the Antenna.
Most of the companies now employ a system which makes the CB antenna part of the antenna for the am/fm radio and most of those suck.
SO the best thing to do is to NOT touch the radio - no peaking or tuning - and to get the right antenna mount. I would leave one antenna in place, install new coax to the other one with either a new mount or use the existing mount (don't remember how Volvo mounts are but I am assuming they are like Macks).
Once you get that done, grounding the system is the next step, it is the most critical and if you do everything right, you can talk and hear a lot farther where it matters.mike5511, Slowmover1, homeskillet and 2 others Thank this. -

I sold my Connex 4400 15 years ago with a 500 watt kicker at the TA in Oklahoma City I just got fed up with all the trash talk and all the music being played so I pulled into the parking lot,I just shouted out anybody want to buy a radio I had that sucker tuned in perfect, Radio a little history on it because I bought it from a lot lizard in Baldwin Florida at the TA for 25 bucks with the kicker neither one worked so I went and had the work done on them and had them matched up and it was the best CB Radio setup that I had ever owned up until that time well just recently I was in a pawn shop I bought a little Cobra sound tracker for $15 and put it in my truck and you know what I've only turned it on twice still not impressed buy all the trash talking but I'll give it a little more time maybe I'll take it back and pawn it who knows
