I never stated I was in fact going with Swift. I merely reached out, but haven't been in contact. I'm going through all options you and other members suggest. You guys are the ones with the knowledge and experience. I'm not going to dismiss that and your efforts to assist me.I did do the application, but that is all that I have done and I just called to let them know I put it in. They told me they could approve me in a matter of hours and start me the same week. I'm not interested in Swift, but I did want to see how their process was for myself to compare that of Jim Palmer. I'll be applying to Prime and looking into others to apply to.
I have looked into the Post Office, but I think I got scammed as I ended up paying a $35 fee. I unfortunately only have 9 months TOS in the Army, over a year if you consider basic and AIT, I was Honorably Discharged. For a moment I was looking into over seas contracts, but with such short time in service I'm not sure sure credible I am as a fit for someone to hire (picturing it from their perspective, not trying to discredit what I've done but I'm not sure if it is enough).
I was looking into Primes website, but it states there is nothing available in California. Nonetheless, I reached out to someone through the contact information.

Bless your heart. You are kind of wandering around in your thoughts trying to figure out your next destination. I think if you pick a good company to start with even if you only truck for a couple of years you will gain confidence and a sense of pride and self reliance. Check back in with @Chinatown for his recommendations and go for it..just not one of the clunker companies.
88 Alpha, Mooseontheloose and twpaq Thank this. -
You're not wrong by any means, wandering is exactly what I have been doing and is something I'm trying to eliminate from my lifestyle. Clunker companies I will definitely stay away from. Your suggestions are valued so I apologize if it appeared as if I was dismissing them.

Hate to say it, but yeah...it does look like you got scammed

Even though the PO is extremely pro military, they do hire everyday regular people with no experience. I think about 25% of the workforce are Military Vets. At my barn, it's around 65%. The rest are civilians. There should never be a fee to apply for a job. Everything is done online at USPS.com. Every position you apply for has a test. Testing is basically for seniority reasons. The higher your test score, the higher your seniority. If you have your DD214, you get Veterans preference as well.
The main goal at the PO is to turn Career (Full time). Nobody really starts off full-time. You have to start off as a Part-timer/Casual. But once you get converted Full-time, you can move up in the ranks and basically apply for ANY position within the PO, or the Federal government to be exact. The higher the rank, or grade level as we call, the higher the salary. OT is paid after 8, doubletime after 10, and double and a half after 12, for most union jobs.
The PO is a heavily unionized workforce. Every position you apply for will be a union job...except for administrative positions, such as a supervisor or manager, but even then, supervisors also have a union too
The PO has 4 separate unions. We're not Teamsters, and it's not mandatory to join the union. Federal unions, you have an option to join or not.
Truck driving positions, or TTO (Tractor Trailer Operator) as we call it, is a Class A position, and you need experience to be qualified. MVO (Motor Vehicle Operator) is a Class B position, and you also need experience to be qualified. The PO does offer free training, but this is only offered to Class B MVO's that want to move up to a Class A TTO. The vehicle mechanics also get free training as well, if they want to obtain their Class A. Letter Carriers, no CDL is required, and they're basically your typical mail man that delivers your bills and Amazon packages. They start off as CCA (City Carrier Assistant) and you have to wait to become a full-time letter carrier. They put in ridiculous hours, but they get paid extremely well for their efforts. Some of them make $150-200k + a year.
From my impression, it seems like your more of the adventurous type. Someone who probably prefers OTR rather than the monotony of Local. I don't know too much about OTR...more about local jobs, but good luck in whichever path you choose
