On the elbow into the turbo, pull the top tube out that goes to the y on the breathers. Put a folgers coffee can in that with 3 clamps holding it. Get a paint regulator for your air line in the shop and cut it back to 15psi. Over on the intake side is a 1/4 in pipe plug. Put air out of the regulator into there. Check the whole system especially the gaskets where intake bolts to the head2CAN, Al. Roper, peterbilt_2005 and 19 others Thank this.

You may not agree but I feel this holds true to any diesel. I cringe at the kids with the diesel pickups "Rolling Coal".
Sled pulling different story. Just to be clear. -
Yep that’s what she does. A wisp Black coal on acceleration after the up shift then it clears up and burns clean.Al. Roper, peterbilt_2005, Feedman and 16 others Thank this.

Y’all are confusing me. I always thought the opposite, since a lean condition would have plenty of air to carry the heat away but not much fuel to make heat.

I agree 100 percent.

Lean wont spin the turbo as fast to move the air.

I’m not really a diesel guy but Air makes heat. Maybe different on a diesel but when you lean out a carb they run hotter just like when you get a hotter flame from a oxyacetylene torch when you add more oxygen. Easy to burn down a two stroke by jetting the carb too lean or when you add airflow by taking out the air filter or adding headersAl. Roper, peterbilt_2005, Feedman and 14 others Thank this.
