My A/C compressor clutch won't engage. Everything in the control circuit is working fine. When I flip the A/C switch on the dash the A/C relay contacts engage. I confirmed with a test light that the A/C relay is getting power from the fuse on the two pins where it should, pins 86 and 30. So the wire running from the relay to the compressor should have power, but I'm assuming it's broken somewhere.
I unscrewed the fuse panel and reached my hand behind and wiggled the wire coming off the relay, so I believe it is properly connected to the back of the relay plug.
Anybody else have this issue and know where this wire is apt to break? I've checked the wire all the way from the compressor to wire it disappears into the firewall harness.
No power to A/C compressor. A/C switch works

First thing I'd check is the static pressure in the A/C system. If you had a leak and lost your refrigerant charge, the compressor will not engage as it sense insufficient charge.

Check the air gap on the clutch

did you check the high pressure switch? If it's the newer style plug with the small pins turn on the AC with truck running and wiggle the wires a little

Problem solved.
Like I said everything in the control part of the circuit works fine: both pressure switches work, the A/C switch works, and I have refrigerant charge. The relay clicks when I flip the A/C switch, and I have proper power going from the fuse to the relay. That basically narrowed it down to a problem in the wire running from the relay to the compressor, or a bad ground off the compressor.
I had power on the compressor wire at the plug on the front of the firewall, but no power at the plug at the compressor. The wire was broken somewhere in between. I tracked it down to somewhere in the huge mess of wires looping around behind the ecm.
In lieu of tearing all that apart I just spliced in a short piece of wire to bypass, and wham bam shazam, I got power baby.Newto Trucking Thanks this. -

put gauges on it. then go by the chart. never put any dye or stop leak in a ac system. the best set up for ac systems is the oil and freon.

Disconnect wire in question . To see if it is the issue get a piece of wire for a jumper and go from the switch to the plug on the AC by going out the door .then stuff the wire in the opening in the back if the plug you'll know if it works or a short if it does not work the compressor has an electric engaged clutch there are contacts on the springs that draw together like a magnet.. this is called air gap when the distance between the friction surface is too far due to wear..if you close the gap by tweaking the retention springs you close the gap . Hope this helps
