I’m glad that you brought it up this issue with monopoly. This is exactly what is happening with truck stop load board . Before we had options , now we don’t . And is not about “if you don’t like it, get out” is about the integrity of the business .
I have one question: DO WE REALLY NEED BROKERS? We have the technology to deal directly with the shippers, right ? Truckers , We have the equipment that is needed to transport products and shippers have the product. Does amazon, Uber , convoy etc etc produce anything? Why do we need the middle man ?? Can someone explain it , please ?

I’m not going to get tired of repeating the same thing I’ve and over again.
I talked to a few “o/o” and they have the same fkn stories and questions.
My dispatch was giving me crappy loads
And since I worked under their MC I don’t know what to do.
My friend told me Bla bla bla bla
So that why I’m leasing to X company.
And is better to make 400 or 500 dollars per day than 150. Dollars somewhere else.
1 what do I need to do to get my MC?
    2 Where do I find loads ?
3 is not too much responsibility?
My conclusion is that because they are uneducated, the rest will pay the consequences.
So , what do we do ?

Let them play trucker and go broke. I don’t think Amazon is going to accomplish what they are trying to do. Yes there are a lot of idiots running their stuff cheap but NOWHERE near enough to haul vast amounts of freight for outside customers. Until they pay sustainable prices to where megas and long term sustainable fleets can make money then it won’t happen for them I don’t think. They would have to buy their own trucks and have their own drivers IMO. Now they could then run at a loss and put everyone out but it would costs billions on billionssand take years but sadly they probably could afford that. Now that’s what is scary.

    Ohh amazon,amazon.
You took on mike Tyson (Walmart) and knocked
Him out in the 10 round.
Now you think your invincible. Untouchable!
    Can do no wrong.

Well welcome to the meat grinder.
Better known as the transportation industry.
Where a 1000 truck company can disappear overnight.
Never to be heard from again.

It's pure capitalism. Where,no matter how low you bid,
There's a hundred guys that will bid lower.
All the million dollars lawyers and accountants
In the world can't help you in this deal.

There's not a politician on your payroll
That can save you from all the crooks, lairs,
    Thieves,cheats,con men,brokers, double brokers,
    Fake brokers, fake companies,fake loads,
    Blind loads, weather, construction,blizzards,
Ice storms and dot on your ###.

I didn't even mention the worst part.
The guy/ girl behind the wheel who can tell
You NO. And there's nothing you can do about it.

Many have tried too take control of the industry
And bend it to its will. All have failed.
    Way too many variables,
Way too many things out of your control.

The only way one entity will ever control this
Industry, is thru the barrel of a gun at the back
    Of the truck drivers heads.
    Jim Hoffa, mafia style.

    Where one person says,
Nothing moves for less than X amount a mile.
And every driver for fear of his, or his families
    Lives doesn't cross the line.
But those days are long gone.

But ill help you out, if you give me a free year
    Of amazon prime.
Since your prices are so low, your gonna
Have a hard time finding trucks to pull it.

    So here's the plan:
Buy 500 new trucks, just write the check,
    You got plenty of money.

Offer lease purchase to every driver you can.
    You'll have 10,000 applications.
They pay every truck expense, plus you can
Steel .10 cpm off of every truck in the name
Of a maintenance fund. That you keep when you
    Get rid of them.

Pay them a buck a mile all day long.
Give them a free amazon t-shirt.
Then Run'em into the ground pulling your dirt
    Cheap freight.
Show them no mercy. Not that you would anyway.

Your freight gets moved for free,
The fleece driver pays all the bills,
You put your competitors out of business,
You got 50 more ways to charge the lease driver
    For whatever you want.
And you've made money off of all of them.

And when a driver is close to paying off
A truck, you just starve him out or get rid of
Him for whatever reason you want.
You get to keep the truck he paid for.
    Can't beat that deal.

I'm sure your million dollar lawyers know how to
write the standard, one way, all in the companies
    Favor, fleece purchase contract.

If not, just call swift, or prime,cr England or
Any of the other companies doing it.
They got piles of them laying all over
    The office.

There you go. I just made you another trillion dollars.
Don't forget my free year of amazon prime.

We will have options when trucks become tight again. You can get your own customers and no-one will stop you from that but for better or worse brokers are necessary. The shippers and receivers have a core business and it's not trucking. Trucking for them is just a necessary evil. A cost. Shippers and receivers can hire staff paying them a salary + benefits to vet carriers, cover freight, and deal with every day ordinary transportation headaches.

Or they can outsource that to a carrier or broker, probably cheaper, to deal with headaches they themselves don't want to deal with. They want their raw materials and goods to arrive and depart whenever they want and leave the nitty gritty of how that gets done to the transportation industry.

Lots of shippers dont want to deal with 1 truck or small fleet operators. Who could blame them? Some will. You just have to do the legwork to find the ones that will. They're not going to come to you because they dont have to.

everything has its time and i think amazon has peaked and will start back down the hill as more and better companies enter the Internet market place ..... if you would have said in the 70s that sears and kmart would merge the thought would be they would control the market ....... or roadway and yellow would merge they would totally control the ltl market. ...... myself i dont buy anything from amazon

My truck and dry van sat idle for 2 months because I refused to work for free.

I bought a step deck last Saturday because the flat / step rates allow me to make a small profit. The brokers can take a hike with their $1/mile van rates.

So Hoffa said "nothing less than 3 dol per mile" and everybody listened?
Maybe we should find another Hoffa.
