I'm not surprised Coyote would choose such an unreliable way to establish detention times, to make it easier to wiggle out of it. They already demonstrated to me their strategy to hold an invoice (versus short pay) over a meritless claim, in order to bully a carrier to agree on a discounted invoice. Whoever they hired that thought that up needs a measles rash in their shorts.

Since I know you, at least, are a customer service kind of guy, here's something you might find interesting. MacroPoint integrates with my ELD system, and many others. There's no cost and it's not hard to set up. For a few of the bigger 3PL's I can log into my MacroPoint controls and switch a tracking request from the driver's cell phone, to get location from the ELD instead. It's way more reliable than the cell phone method.

Yep it's really bogus because I checked off all the boxes on making all the calls with arrival/departure times, notifying that detention time was starting and documenting it all on the signed POD which was also emailed in PDF to the broker within 5 minutes of delivery. Only to be given then run-around. I try to take care of service even though no-one ever seems to care but some of these brokerages sure test patience. The company I'm leased on with would never allow any brokerage access to their ELD info. I wouldn't either if under my own numbers but I know it's a direction many brokers are looking to head.

Macropoint tracking by ELD provides no more data than cell phone tracking. In fact probably less, given how various permissions required could possibly offer more than needed. I've read the developer specs on my ELD. The only data enabled is position, and nothing else. Also, that only works when the truck is running and the ELD is active.

That said, when I've tracked on the ELD it works 100% and I never hear any complaints. By cell phone there are always problems, and of course whoever is monitoring accuses the user of blocking remote access or doing something to make it not work. Which is BS since I've had it happen on my own high end Samsung phone on Verizon, and everything enabled to make it work throughout the trip.

There are a few customers, repeat customers not brokers, that can sign in and see just their loads that are in progress. Would never give any broker, no matter what, that ability.

The big problem I'm having with macropoint is the spam. Not only do you get tracked but you get messages about entering their sweepstakes and so forth. That is absolutely 100% unacceptable in the trucking industry. To spam a driver when he could be making a critical turn or needing to watch stop and go traffic? Absolutely unacceptable and I would beat the sht out of whoever's doing it if I could .

How are they spamming you? Next time take a screen shot. That’s unacceptable. Are you 100% sure it’s macropoint?

I use macropoint occasionally. I also delete program when delivered. Download again next time.Im sure I’m just ignorant of the technology, but I can see a Brokers Dream here. Knowing where your at always. Offering lower rates based on your operation. I wonder about collecting information while turned off, in the background. Otherwise it’s convenient, except when they still call a dozen times.

Well, MAYBE it's illegitimate and not really from macropoint but here are some recent examples.

I see it as a way for them to confirm your location for detention, too. Let's say you need to be on time to a receiver to collect any detention and you're 3 minutes late according to macropoint. Bingo! Don't have to pay detention.
