Ok so was told that if you have a turbo fail and comapart you want to get the charge air cooler cleaned out or it will ruin the new turbo? We have a truck that was just purchased and the fines on the charge side look like the pic. Is this from inversion thru the turbo or ... my thought is it's from running with a not sealed breather system.... dirt hitting the fins at high speed

Debris in the charge air cooler wil not damage the new turbo as its down stream of the turbo discharge but if small enough to pass through the cac it can damage the engine so yes after a turbo failure its good to clean the cac.

That turbo is shot and needs replaced and the engine most likely has heavy wear in the cylinders from dirty air being fed to it for a long time.

Yes yes but my question poorly stated was those fines are damaged like that due to dirty air being feed to the turbo correct. No such thing like inversion happens at any point right. this truck runs really good and is pretty strong at only 14 lbs of boost iam wondering if during the supposed in frame the turbo was replaced and before being sold was ripped off and old one put back on

If you mean whoever did the engine before you got ahold of it kept a brand new slightly spun turbo then that person is unethical. Why would you buy or do work with such a greedy.

As far as the rest of it. if the turbo is bad, then replace that, plus replace everything that feeds it so that the new turbo is not for lack of a better comparison breathing in the snot built up inside the existing system that may or may not have burned up the old turbo with bad air.

I would clean the entire air system and look for any opening where dirt and debris can get in.If you got ripped off its a shame, but it happens all the time, there's a lot of dirty dealers out there, let the buyer beware. Who did the work?

Pieces of the impeller can actually blow back into the intake and air filter, so change your air filter and check the air cleaner housing and intake pipe thoroughly.

As Heavyd said the debris will go back towards the air filter. Oil will go toward the cac. Pull the piping apart from the air filter and run your hand on the inside. If your hand gets a fine silver powder on it then it wasn’t cleaned up like it should have been.

Ok I appreciate all the help in understanding how what happens happens . I agree it was a shady thing to do but it is what it is. I believe I found were dirt was getting in. The cross over pipe was wrongly mounted and was rubbing the valve cover. ####ty part was it was a private sale more or less from a guy with a shop over by a tax in the Dallas area near I wanna stay telegraph road..... anyways thanks for the help gates will probably replace with 171701 or 02 Borg.
