Since August, door times at the docks have gone straight down the pooper. I used to get out at 4:20 am every day, then it got to 4:45, then 5:00 am, then 6:00 am then 6:30. When it started being consistently late every day, I started looking for another job.
I found a new job, with a LTL/Linehaul and now make $103K a year, still governed at 65 but I get paid for everything and anything under the sun.
To hell with FedEx Ground and their useless rat b***rd greedy contractors.
If I have to be subjected to micromanagement then I might as well get paid for it, because that's the reason I spent 4 years there. I could drive 72 mph, get from Denver to Wamsutter in 4 hrs minutes, take my 30 minute break, and get back in 4 hours and 6 minutes.
After they started the governing crap, it took me 4 hrs and 38 minutes to get there, 30 minute break, 4 hrs and 38 minutes to get back (if traffic wasn't bad).
but add in the cameras, lane departure crap, speed governing to 65 mph AND 2 hour late dock times, screw this. The greedy penny pinching contractors don't want to go reasonable raises (one penny per mile is a slap in the face), they aren't willing to pass along any pay for sitting at the docks for 2 hours, don't pay you when you break down for 2 days in another city...I'm done. Glad I walked away from that poop show.
Unfortunately drivers are still flocking there because most don't want to run nights or work the extraboard at the bigger LTL/Linehaul places. They like their nice cushy day routes and Sun/Mon off, can't say I blame them, I did too until the FedEx bs became too oppressive. It's unreal I was expected to come in at 4:00 and sit there until 6:30 am before my dock doors shut and not get so much as a dime for my time.
What needs to be developed is speed limit sign recognition technology. The trucks should only do what the posted speed limit sign says. There should be sensors that recognize a 75 mph zone and you can't go any faster than that. If the speed limit drops to 55, the truck recognizes that and goes to that.
Enough of this governing nonsense.
All the trucks at Henderson, CO were turned down. A few teams had theirs set at 70 so they could still make their runs.
65 mph here we come....

One of my drivers is on the path right now to making $110k this year.
Too bad all the other contractors are so greedy, gives guys like me a bad name. -
My new job will be a stepping stone to my own Owner Operator gig in due time. Always raising the bar for myself and advancing myself. Complacency is a five letter b-word.
I learned a lot, drove in a lot of different and diverse and adverse weather conditions in a variety of regions.mjd4277 and dieselViking Thank this. -

My philosophy is. I'd rather lose some profit for the company by paying guys what they are worth. At least I'll always have a butt in the seat. Contractor can't make any money by being cheap cause you won't have anyone to run the truck to make you any money.
But I'm also stepping outside the FedEx egg basket here as well. After all the crap they've pulled bringing in companies like total transport, giving them 3 year dedicated local contracts and telling us contractors to pound sand. That's when I started sourcing more work outside of FedEx.X-Country Thanks this. -
20 FedEx trucks sitting around the linehaul building idling every morning waiting on a load.
Makes absolutely no sense.Doublewiggle32 and dieselViking Thank this. -
I saw this got bumped up with the new posts.
Are Fedex contractors still governed at 65? I ask because my truck will do 68, but I regularly get lapped by just about every LTL except Holland.dieselViking Thanks this. -
As a contractor my trucks are at 72. FedEx has not asked me to turn my trucks down.
But I do know a contractor who had to turn his down to 65, but I believe that was because one of his drivers got a speeding ticket.homeskillet Thanks this. -
