I'm in the same boat you're in, probably worse. I don't think I could fry an egg with the hen sitting there telling me how, but I enjoy messin with it if I have time.

No. I was more talking about where the winch was. I made that mistake once and it destroyed the tire. The way the winch is bent forward it seems it already ate a tire at some point.

I was under the impression that it was a violation to have a winch directly over a tire (regardless if it actually could rub)? I put stops in my channels and didn't think it would create a problem, but I've already had times where I needed one right there and couldn't use a pocket winch. It had to be right there between the pockets, so I used a ratchet?

Someone more versed in the regs. will have to say if it's a violation or not. But I personally will not put a winch near a tire. The one I destroyed was quite a mess and a bit embarrassing. When I ran flats I always just kept ratchet straps on the truck if I needed a strap near a tire.
