Never heard of a 900 baud modem. There was 300 baud, 1200 baud, 9,600. I went high-dollar back then: the IBM PCjr. It had 128K of memory, which beat the heck out of the Radio Shack TRS-80 with 16k memory. Then I really laid out the bucks: $3,200, in 1985, for the Compaq Portable II, w/80286 running at 8 mhz, switchable to 6 mhz for software that couldn't keep up with speed like that. It came with 128k, but for $300 I upgraded to 640k, and $1,000 for a 20 meg HardCard Plus,

My first PC, (IBM Compatible is what they called 'em back then) was a Commodore Colt. It had an Intel 8088 processor, 640k ram, 2 5 1/4" floppy drives and no hard drive what so ever. I spent hours on that thing playing Ultima and Bard's tale. Later on me and a buddy both got 1200 baud modems so we could link up and play Modem Wars. Modem wars was a hell of a game back then. The guy that wrote it used the money he made from it to have his schlong lopped off and he became a chick....weird. There was no such thing as the internet back then. BBS's were all the rage back then.
