So the rates are not really all that good right now but if you pull a dry van, which lanes are better (market wise). The northeast or the Midwest?

I've always heard owners say they could get a good rate going in, but it's always cheap coming out. I would think the northeast would be great in the winter

Van rates are so bad that I went out and bought a step deck.

It will depend on your situation. Own all your equipment and numbers or leased on to a carrier?

Rates drop off the edge for vans, then every one jumps in the open deck market. That creates over capacity in that segment and rates fall off the edge as well. Sounds like a good idea.

Rates are always good going up into the northeast but hardly ever pay better going back down. I have a friend who swears by running the northeast exclusively. I felt that overall he may fair a little better running the Midwest and back east. Laterally.
