A truck is one of the most volatile investments ever. But if you really want to do it even though you can’t keep an eye on it, then go ahead and do it.
Just so you know, the government can acquire any private property through adverse possession. So just be careful on who you hire as a driver.

While I agree with everyone else that it's a horrible idea to buy and lease out a truck while out of the country, I also feel it is a horrible idea to think you can hook it to a camper and drive around without any experience or training when you return to the states. These things aren't like your car or pickup truck. They're big and heavy and can get you into serious trouble in the blink of an eye.

Thank you everyone, we’ve made our decision. We much appreciate your advice and sharing of your wisdom. Take care!

Although you've mentioned you already made a decision, I'd like to add:
Real Investments are Appreciating Assets.
Almost anything (there are very, very few exceptions) with wheels, is a Depreciating Liability.SimsCasa Thanks this. -
Are you planning to give the driver access to funds to do normal maintenance (oil changes, tires, brakes etc.) and also call and pay road service when that comes up? How do you plan on paying the driver? When you lease on to a company, you lease the services of your truck to them. The driver is your employee. How will you handle all of these things? I'm not slamming you . I'm just curious to how much thought you have given this.
SimsCasa and Socal Xpress Thank this. -
This is the strangest business idea I've heard for a long time. I agree with the others, not a good idea. It's extremely difficult imo to run a business from out of state, much less out of the country - especially something you have no experience in. Not trying to rain on your parade, but it's definitely a recipe for disaster, as another poster put it.
Also OP, you asked for opinions/info. What you are getting are honest responses. Telling people to mind their own business because you don't like their advice isn't gonna get you very far.. -
Interesting edit.
How in the world is any reply "unsolicited"? Japanese customs must be wwaayy different than the rest of the world. Or maybe the OP doesn't understand how asking questions in a public forum works? -
We have made our decision, but I so appreciate the questions and information. Everyone has greatly helped!

What was your decision? Are you buying a truck or have you decided to wait and look at it a little more?

you don't know how message boards work.
they are open and FREE to all members to give advice.
some advice is golden, while some may only be bronze.
even someon who has no real stake in anything, still has an opinion, based on what that person has read, right here on this site..!!!!!
take what money you have and invest it into stocks, bonds, real estate, or hey...how about a trucking company by buying up some of thier stock.???
