with a goose neck trailer gvwr is 20000 i drive only in texas and i just got pulled over and put out of service for not having a cdl logbook and med card.... now the state of texas states that as long as u r under 26001 lb i dont need any of this requirements so then y did dot put me out of service. Actual weight doesn't matter (unless one is overweight). It's weight ratings that matter. You are in CDL class A due to combined rating of 30,000 and trailer of 20,000.

If the vehicle combination can carry over 26000# CDL is needed. What the actual weight does not matter, it is what it can haul.

It is based on what the vehicle can do not what it is doing
