Your not getting a private channel, I have sold private channels for as much as 350,000.00 , and that was back in the mid 90's. So now that same channel would be in the mill's more than likely.
That aside, just pick up a family radio service radio a kmart or wal mart.
If privacy is an issues contact your local Motorola or Johnson radio dealer, trucked dmr digitial radios air time should be about 30 bucks per month per radio. -
If your CB radios are side band capable you could run on the upper or lower side band... Better range than am... And very few people use side band... And you have 80 channels to pick from.

get two way radios work a whole lot better...like a mobile base station and then it's kind of similar to what taxis and tow trucks do

Come on people. A good set of upper and lowers pretty much assures limited privacy. 99% of cb operators won't chase you over 200+ channels. All free.
Timin770 Thanks this. -
And if you get those uppers & lowers just across the border — saving big over American dentists — you can afford any durned radio you want.

Ainnnnk! That might prove to be difficult, not to mention illegal. Stay OFF the 140-150 frequencies. These are used by police, fire, and the licensed amateur radios. And they would not be amused by your filching their channels. They will come after you (DF and report) you to the Feds. The best bet is the MURS and FRS radios mentioned here.
-
Careful with some of those FRS radios, a lot of them include GMRS ranges (channels 15-22), and you need a FCC license to use that. Costs about $70 and lasts 10 years. You are supposed to use proper broadcasting rules when using it (ie, announcing your callsign and such). You could probably get away with not getting the license is you're well out in the middle of now where, but if someone reports you, and the FCC decides to come find you, it is a hefty fine.

Side band would be your easiest, best and cheapest route, or even ten meter radios, plenty of channels available that you will not find any traffic on with either.
Back in the day we would install different crystals in cb's for private channels, but I do not think this is even possible with modern radios, I haven't heard of anybody doing it since probably the 80's.Oxbow Thanks this. -
No such thing as "private" on a typical CB radio. As stated, anyone with a scanner can hear everything said over a CB.
And check your local regs for the legality of using 2 way communication while hunting. Where I'm from, it's a big no no with large fines.
