Overhauled engine

Are you asking if it's ok to drive your truck bobtail 1500 miles to get your trailer.

I had a fresh overhaul in January. Was told the same thing run it hard. Push it.

My first load was a power only. 300 bobtail miles to the pickup. 1200 miles with a 15000# trailer. 900 bobtail back home.

My motor runs just fine. When bobtail the mechanic told me to drop a gear an run with high rpm.

Since then I have ran a few 45,000+ loads west thru the mountains. The rings have definitely seated properly.

What I read about the rings seating was keeping the temperature of the motor on the high end of range. Not overheating just high on the normal range.

Don't idle the truck more than it takes to get operating air pressure in the system.
Don't run low rpm, or lug the motor.

Just my experience with one overhaul. Many better mechanics on here than me.

Yes run the motor hard!!! Blow it again so we can charge you another $15,000 to fix it...

 

If the overhaul was done right, then it should last a long time...

 

I would vary the rpm. 1550 for 15 minutes then drop a gear and run it up to 1950/2000 for 15 minutes, then shift and drop the rpms back down. Repeat. Try and hit every range between 1400 and top rpm. The biggest thing is not letting it idle or lug.

 

Load it up. Make it work. No better way to break an engine in than on a dyno.

 

Take it to a Dyno and they have a run in procedure the they can do on the Dyno. Cost around 300 bucks or so.
