When I was prehired in June I had 2 options. option 1: for training do all my training at once and get the $500 bonus when you make your first load. option 2: split the time and do half the training then go home for a paid 7 days off then return and finish the 2nd half of training but don't get the $500 bonus. Has anyone got the graduation pay from Werner? With the rumors about not getting a truck after training and being sent home it looks like I am going to do option 2 and split my time becasue it doesn't look like I everr get a truck and be waiting 3-5 weeks if it's true I don't know if these option are the same now do to it being 6+month ago that I was prehire then got prehired again and start in January so I'm waiting on my prehire packet in the mail

My hubby trained with Werner, and ended up doing his training all in one shot and got the bonus. He decided to wait and see what his trainer was like before making the decision on which way to go. He got a very good trainer, so decided to do the training all in one shot.
May want to see what your trainer is like, and if you get a good one, go ahead and do the training all in one shot. You never know what you'll end up with the second round. -
I was thinking the samething about what kind of trainer I get if I get a good trainer I'll stay on the truck. The only thing I'm worried about is doing all my training at once then not getting to make my 1st load due to them sending you home for a LOA because of no trucks so I'll see how things look when I get going

It's definitely a 'wing it' situation to a degree! It would suck to sit for weeks after finishing your training, that's for sure. It's unbelievable what's going on in the biz right now. Who'da thunk it?

We cheated, because my husband trained me I got to go 'home' everytime he did and never took the time off. I got the bonus without issue. But now... I wouldn't be so sure.

i did the full training 275+ hours and got the 500 bonus. was also one of the lucky ones who gat a really good trainer.
Git_R_Done and Baack Thank this. -
You know you get paid $300 for that week off so it is only actually a $200 bonus.
You might as well just take the week off unless you get lucky and get a really good trainer.
Also you can decide this at any time basicaly. I called my SDM when I was at about 160 hours or so ( I waited till we were close to the Indy terminal so I could drive home) -
Yes, if you get a good trainer, stay out the full time and keep the good trainer!

I can't help it, but EVER time I read about WERNER trainers, I slide back to the "WERNER TRAINER CRAPS HIMSELF" Post.. What a golden post.. I vote it to be placed in the Truckers Trucking Forum "Post of Fame"... -
right now, I would say that getting the bonus depends on how greedy your sdm is. so far, all the students I've had have gotten it, except the last one. his sdm took him off my truck purposely when we had no open spots in the fleet. she sent him home and told him to call back after 30 days. which, as we all know, is a death sentence for a werner driver. luckily for him I always ask the student dept how my students are doing after they have been off my truck for a few days. they told me he was no longer with the company. I called him and he said they told him to wait the 30 days.
not a very good sdm lol.
