It won't be the last time.
Road construction isn't too bad, even if you only go 25mph, it isn't as bad as it seems as long as you are rolling. Road construction + and rush hour is no good. It can be a waste your 70 to trudge and through it. Probably save you an hour or two ant the end of the week, from one avoidance like that.
Might be good to let dispatch know how many hours you will have left after your delivery, so they can plan for it. After your break and get rolling tomorrow. Just so they don't assume you can bounce for a day.

They gave me a squeeze with this load. Picking up scraps from recap hours and got this kid last minute. 200mile deadhead this morning was able to arrive 2 hours early (I left at around 7 appt was for 1) got loaded and left but idk what’s going on here in Maryland/Virginia traffic is just crawling along and then stops at construction.

We don't have the luxury to just get in and go untill the clock runs out. Lots more traffic now nowadays.
I'd rather push as much as I could, but it isn't always going to work like that. -
CFI has zero tolerance for log violations. I got chewed out for going over my 8hrs by a half hour

You did the right thing. You might have driven another hour, 1.5 tops. Any more than that would have been pushing it to close.
I agree with buddyd157, always get as close as you can. Being on elog/eobr in this case that is exactly what you did.
