    Are you running over weight?

I don’t understand the concern otherwise.

That wouldn’t be my preferred route anyway, depending on where you’re coming out of in CT. If reasonable, 84 to 684 to 287 and across the Tap would be preferable simply due to traffic conditions.

I base these comments on the background experience of having run locally in that area.

You have the same 80,000# gross through there on I95 and you have everywhere else.

It all depends on timing then. If you aren’t going to be CLEAR of the GWB by maybe 5:30 am ish, go around. If you can scoot through before then, go for it. You don’t want to experience the joy of traffic between the Bronx and GWB in peak hours.

What’s your destination? That, in addition to the hours you’ll be going through, will make a difference in figuring out the best routing options.

Your in ct there isnt a toll on the south bound side. So you wont have a roll. As far as weight restrictions. Unless your heavy hauling and have a over weight permit. There is no weight restriction you have to worry about.

You dont pay any tolls going south on 95. You only pay going north. The toll starts on the NJ turnpike

Yeah, I mean...depending on timing, you can be pretty much cooked here, either way.

But if you can’t get out of NYC before the morning rush, then I’d look at trying to take 95s to 287w to maybe 17s (or if you find something better than 17...I only say that because I’ve been on part of 17 by the Teterboro airport a couple times and don’t want to give out bad road info). Depending entirely on which side of Newark you’re going into, and what your delivery schedule is.

Something else to keep an eye out for - if you decide to go through NYC, and there are major delays posted for the GWB, you can always jump on 278 and run down to the Verrazano or Goethels, and grab 95N from there. Not ideal, but beats sitting in traffic for hours if there’s an accident between 278 and the GW.

As noted by another poster - the height limits in NYC are posted low, UNLESS it’s marked ‘actual’ height. Watch for lower, angled bridge abutments in the far right lane should you get off the interstates.

I don’t imagine WE isn’t using EZPass, either so unless there’s some company rule about tolls, you’ll be fine on that account as NY is all about not collecting cash tolls any more - they did away with the last toll plaza in New Rochelle and went to the overhead scanners.
