Yep, anything connected to the frame has to come apart. I believe they support the cab and motor and do one side at a time. Like I say, I've had buddies that stretched their trucks with longer rails and it was a big job.

If you're going to replace the rails, you basically set them up and transfer all you're components. If I was doing the job, I would first decide what wheelbase I wanted. Then I would position my rails in a jig, setting them parallel and the same distance. Then I would start at the front and work My way back. Exact measurements are imperative and if you're lengthening or shortening you're wheelbase, you will need to change you're driveshafts. Its a very extensive process and yes you'll have to remove cab, axles, motor and trans etc. A frame drill is a must, because all holes must be exact. I've personally never done it, but I've built gliders(cab, front axle and rails), where the rails were blank and I had to drill all holes for rear axles and crossmembers.8hrs, just to drill the holes for the rear axle(you'll also go through bits). I've also extended truck chassis', welding new rails to existing rails(making new crossmembers, driveshafts were measured and sent out). Its hard work, but the final results are definitely worth it. I wouldn't recommend doing it without the help of someone who's done it.

Looks like work of member LBBW's (Loyal Brotherhood of Booger Welders)

MTO would have a say about that patch. If the patch is flush with the frame grind it smooth to blend in and not be noticeable.Vampire, AModelCat, spsauerland and 2 others Thank this. -
I think sticking that plate with bubble gum would be better then how it is done now.
AModelCat, Goodysnap, spsauerland and 1 other person Thank this. -
