I'm from Europe and I'm glad that they are not required here! Cause all idiots use them in light rain or whenever they are not necessary

This is blinding you more than oncoming traffic with high beams!D.Tibbitt, MagnumaMoose and Chinatown Thank this. -
If they had tailgated there would be less damage.
I can garantee you they ran 55mph when they hit the truck in front which would have been allready come to a full stop. The Kraut Thanks this. -
Anytime you follow closer than your brakes will stop you your tailgating, Despite the weather or other conditions, Bad weather or fog slow down and stretch out the folloing distance, theres no way to argue they were following to close. Or you would not have had the accident they would have stopped. Sad yes, preventable, totally.

Space cushions are for sissies.

I’ll take a wild guess and say it was because of dense fog.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

So these roads with a divider and a couple of lanes are outdated? Was it not just a few decades ago that most of these roads were 2 lane with a little strip of paint dividing the traffic? It was head on then. Then seen some nasty wrecks down in that Sacramento valley with that fog. Humans are humans and some are in a race for the finish.
skellr Thanks this. -
US-28 south of Nephi, UT was nicknamed the "death strip". Nicknamed long before pagers or mobile phones. Just a straight stretch of road where people would fall asleep and drift across the zipper.
By the way things are going today they should just completely shut the road down because it's too dangerous for "modern" drivers.
