I eat beef here and there. But I'm too immature to care for animals. So I was just kind of projecting the limits of what I think I could be responsible for.
There's still plenty of that in the more remote parts of eastern NM. The cattlemen were here long before the dairymen. They'll probably still be here long after they have jumped ship due to the various water supply/quality issues.

If you never ran illegal you never hauled raw milk from the barn... occassionally those happy cows produce copious quantities of milk and batches can't be mixed.

Heh. And you ride a bike that can break the speed limit in first gear.

I know this is an old thread, but I can tell you nothing much has changed doing farm pick up milk hauling here in central/southern California. You wont run legal more often then not, and wait times to get unloaded and tank washed at most of these plants is ridiculous. I've had 19 hour days at Artesia, but Rockview has to be the worst #### hole in my opinion lol.

Usually in my day starts about 5am a fixed route that alternates between 14 farms every other day ends up at the Cloverland in Baltimore off Exeter Hall Ave by late morning. Usually finished unloading and sanitation by 2 at the latest. Home in 40 minutes or so until the next day.

I am led to believe by the total elimination of all day cabs by the former company when they replaced all of them with nothing but OTR sleeper trucks and long haul tankers for milk in bulk that the old fashioned farm to farm gathering milk is obsolete.

Pricing is a problem. Regulated and set between the State and Federal Government on several levels. Its almost not worth it or not profitable at all depending on where you try to be a milk farmer in the USA. Cheaper to get it from Canada and bring it back into the USA than to try and buy American Milk up there.

I just shuttle preloaded tanks now. If all I could get is two a night unloaded, then that's it. No need to stress over an extra $75 lost.
