spyder, that's exactly what I'm talking about, I may have a lender for non-traditional financing - and plan to lease on that truck lease at a truck firm. Do I understand your statement correctly?

Ok now that the obligatory moment of busting your balls for lack of knowledge is out of the way, back to your prior question. Yes i was talking about non traditional financing and leasing the truck to a carrier. While not ideal, that is a viable way to get into the industry. Just make sure you avoid all the carrier ran lease purchase scams. They are even worse than buy here pay here lots. One thing all decent lenders have in common, even the ones targeting those without good credit, the subprime (B grade) lenders. They ALL require a decent down payment. Anyone advertising zero down is going to rob you blind. Avoid them.dwells40, tommymonza and 338-Dark-Knights Thank this. -

Three years as a company driver, Tommy? How long did it take you to save $30k? What do you pay out annually for cost to operate the truck - which I'm guessing you've broken down into a per mile stop gap accounting? Maintenance escrow account holding a minimum of...$? Emergency monies on hand?
Taking notes here.
I do appreciate any help. -
If you lease your truck to a carrier, and run under their authority, they can assign loads to you that they they received from the broker/load board.
If you take "uncovered loads" I don't think you can haul them under your own authority without a direct contract with their client (shipper). If you did, that would be a double-brokered load, would it not?
It's my understanding that a carrier also has to be a licensed as broker in order to assign loads to another authority (yours).
Further, doesn't the carrier have to have a direct contract with the client/shipper to take a load directly without a broker? In this case they would probably be the client's regular hauler and could possibly end up with uncovered loads, but to get those loads wouldn't you have to run under the carrier's authority? I would think the carrier would also have to be a licensed broker in order to assign you these loads to haul under your own authority.
In addition I've heard it's VERY expensive to get your own authority and it takes quite awhile. I would really want to be careful in evaluating the benefits and costs associated with doing that rather than leasing to a carrier. Thanks. -
