Im pretty close to purchasing a double framed, 20k frt. / 46k rear 500+hp/1850tq. 18 spd. With 4:10 pete.
Its got a paccar. My mechanic says its the perfect truck, for what i want to do other than the powerplant. How is the pulling power ("you pull jeavy loads with gearing, not with hp.") On paccar mx-13 in a ca. 120k-155k grossapplication.
It a used tractor 250k mi. or so on it. Od liske to run it through CALIFORNIA, nv., az. And pull a murray loadmaster/professional with it.
This truck is at a very good price but has sat around at a used dealer over 6 months. I wonder if the paccar engine is the reason why. It looks like a great tractor to build a better heavy haul division with. Any sound advice or shared experience is appreciated.
Mx-13 on 125k-155k loads

500 hp is not a weakling by any means; remember when a 475 Cat C-15 was the bee’s knees?
FWIW, the Kenworth dealer recently told me that the price discount on a late model used truck with the MX is now only about $3000 compared to the ISX or X15 Cummins. It was $10000 discount just a couple years ago I believe.
Also FWIW, sometimes I have had to move my largest excavator (120,000 gross weight) with my old truck with a C13 330hp 3.70 gears. In the mostly flat land and rolling hills of the mid-south, it will carry it on at 55 to 65 mph easily, then bog down to 45 mph on the bigger hills. I’m not sure what it would do out West where you are. Probably get me lots of “you’re No. 1” salutes from the four wheelers.kptnt2016 Thanks this. -
Much appreciated!
Im concerned becsuse a pete dealer expressed the power of my 525hp isx15 us far superior to the 525hp mx-13 -
My understanding regarding the MX13 is the reliability.
LoneCowboy and Landincoldfire Thank this. -
I've got 338k on my 2017 T-680, and while we only run a step up to 80k, it's been nothing but great motor. Not a single hiccup aside from cleaning the dpf at 268k when light came on (supposed to clean at 250). No it's not a 600 hp 6nz, but I get where I'm going at a decent mpg.

How does fuel mileage compare with legal loads?
