Don't panic until your mechanic starts sending you on holiday cruises.

The rut isn't the same as the migration in the PNW, I mean it occurs at the same time, but for some reason TENS OF THOUSANDS of them things move in herd quantities from the more forested parts into the open areas. Probably for the spring time buffet.

tramm01, WesternPlains and Lepton1 Thank this.

Deer act crazy when the fawns start coming, the males start growing antlers, the does give off hormonal scent similar to estrus before dropping their fawns, and they often have multiples who are kept Iseparated to avoid having both or more perish due to predators or accident.

Does move often to keep the younguns taken care of.

The only thing that stirs them up more is hunting season, particularly main gun seasons.

The deer were all in twos. Just standing in the middle of the road. I came up on that 3 times. I figured it was snowing hard, but it wasn’t sticking so maybe the road was warmer and they were enjoying that. I was going 40mph at that point or it would’ve looked like a scene from a horror movie. Plus there were bigger packs off the side of the road.

Wait. Maybe it’s was like the old “Far Side” comic. They were doing Deer gang initiation and they had to play chicken with the trucks. :D

Be real careful going up through there after dark. You're gonna start to see LOTS of strikes.

Came to a complete stop and waited a minute while like 20 crossed in front of me. That was in the middle of the day.

I was just lucky the first 3 jumped out far enough ahead. Cause they came right out of a thicket, and they weren't stopping. Was like a deer conga line.

Always fun to come up on a herd in the road.
They get startled and try to run, no traction on asphalt, so the crash into each other and fall.

Hard to believe that it was only a 15 year run.
    Retired in 1995.
