I recall being taught the same. Even watched on my first Truck, while the Mechanic explained why He jacks them up. Must be something to it. But my Freightliners were never jacked up to grease, so far so good. The problem I have now is because they didn’t shim the new spindle right. Won’t really know till I take it apart.Thats my priority job, after The clutch is done.

The reason some Jack front end is to grease top and bottoms of king pin fittings.
Only top is able to be greased when not jacked up. -
im a little "overkill" with my truck. Maybe
I jack front end off the ground, Grease till it comes out, then let jack down till there is very very slight load on the pins, grease again, then put all weight on truck and grease again. -
Same here i never jack them up and its never led to premature wear. In fact the only time I've ever had king pins need replacing is when i bought a cheap truck that had been neglected. If you keep them greased they will last forever.AModelCat and Cam Roberts Thank this.

Once a week we greased everything. Driveline and cams/slacks again mid week. Grease is cheap IMO.rabbiporkchop and spyder7723 Thank this.

I kept my last one 17 years. Original kingpins with zero play. King pounds are no different than a ujoint, tie rod, spring bushing, slack adjuster, or any other greasable part of the truck. If you neglect them they will wear out. Metal on metal contact is what detroys them. Get under the truck once a week or every other weekend at the most and grease it and they will last longer than you will own it.
A note about properly greasing. Use a lever action or pistol grip grease gun. Not a battery or air one. They don't offer as much control or feel. And grease it till new grease is squeezing out. The only exception to that is scam and pilot bearing. You don't want your brakes or clutch filling up with grease.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
