In all honesty, when I was a company driver, if you simply did what they asked you to do, you'd be fine.
My only bad story was when they put those idling things on without checking to see if the bunk heaters worked. Back in the day, it was something like 30 degrees before you could idle. And I froze my balls off in Pennsylvania one night because I couldn't idle and the bunk heater didn't work.
Man, that still sucks to this day

they complain of fleet size idling at same time is costly. The owner operator would be told u need to know how to run your business. If they choose mpg over comfort while undermining safety then those ugly orange fleet vehicles are waste of time.

Duct tape and a hand warmer. If it’s stubborn they sell those heat tape extension cords (used for water pipes) you can tape it to the mirror and turn it on.
To hell with no idle policies. I ain’t setting in a truck when it’s 80degrees outside but 110 inside trying to sleep.
I’ve got my current truck tricked into not shutting off regardless of temp.

There is no problem idling when it is warm. The only issue is in the cold, and the new battery specs make it almost a non issue.

So how does it work for current trucks with no APU.

Schneider said that if the heat index is over 68 you can idle. Are you guys saying that even if you idle the truck still shuts off?

They also said that all new trucks since I think 2018 are coming with APU's but might be awhile till the whole fleet gets switched over.

If the temps are above 70, and you do not have an apu, the truck WILL idle.
