51mph in a 35mph zone is completely unacceptable when you’re empty.

You should be easily able to hit 60mph.

That’s just lazy and not trying.

    :D

  3. The ticket is in the neighborhood of $624.

53 mph in a 35mph down the north bound side.

    Did it once......

    That's all it takes.....

I see this thread from 2008 has been resurrected.

I have to say that 35 mph did not exist in my time so you ran the grade according to what you could do empty. Which means the speed limit.

If they are enforcing 35 for everyone on that little hill... Sorry no offense, it is a routine hill. Up and down like hundreds of others on the interstate system. And you don't see those plastered with 35.

If you are able to do it, alternate route via 99 out of the valley and working over towards Redding. Or vice versa. You will be able to run double nickel most of the way.

Like a lot of roads in California lately, they seem to be trying to do some maintenance and repairs. Too little to late in a number of places. Northbound I-5 is one section that has been under cared for.

See a number of drivers running well over the posted speed limit. See a number of trucks with overheated brakes. Then the trucks with blown tires or broken parts. And the trucks CHP stopped.

FYI I just came over the Grapevine. Bears were everywhere.

Speeding on a holiday weekend is a nifty idea.

I'll be sure to double check next I'm there wether the speed reduction is on a slight uphill or not but regardless it's at least flat for 4 miles while reducing speed and not posting the flashing 35 miles an hour sign until your full bar going down and obvious Hill. My point is, they should have the giant flashing sign start with the 45 mile-an-hour sign as the area is not unsafe to go much faster in even with a heavy load until you get farther down the road about 4 miles. I've never seen speed limit reducing that far in advance. doesn't make sense for such a big wide slight turning Road.
I'm fine with going slower well in advance of a step grade but I think 4 miles in advance is such overkill, it makes it easy to miss the 1 ( maybe 2? ) posted signs dropping to 45 mph, which then causes you to be doing +15mph over as soon as you see a 35mph sign. I'm talking about someone whos never driven it before that really tries to obey all signs, like me. I retraced the route via Google street view and only saw a 65, 55, and one 45mph signs, about 1 mile apart on totally flat ground from the Lebec Pilot going north. Not trying to rush through at all, guesjust Im thought I was doing the speed limit as cars were me, flying by me, and it was totally safe for conditions.
Traffic must have blocked my view of the 45mph sign because I hit the engine brake as soon as I saw the first 35 mph, which was still nowhere near any slope but the cop was kind enough to ticket me anyway. Yes, signs are posted but even Google street view shows the 1 or 2 45 mph signs can be easily hidden by a trailer.

Anyways, does anyone know a good lawyer that can help me reduce the misdemeanor charge / CSA points? I'm all for nailing reckless drivers but I was definitely nowhere near being reckless and never am.

    The interns interwebs is timeless.....
Just looking for any recommendations of a good lawyer. Getting a 17mph over is going to totally screw me. I'm all for nailing unsafe drivers but this was nowhere near unsafe and I realized need a cleaner CSA so I can get on with a better paying company soon (when I have 1-2 years experience)

I missed the 45 mph signs but didn't slow down fast enough for the cop when I saw the first 35 mph sign. I used the engine brake and light brake pressure so as not too cause a rearend accident but the officer didn't like the couple seconds he didn't see my brake lights when I was just using the engine brake
