It wasn’t me - I had a different issue in VA and the state trooper is probably still spitting mad (he turned soo red I thought he might actually explode). Here is what I can tell you about VA - they didn’t want to negotiate the tickets at all - even in court with a lawyer and yes the trooper was still angry at the court date 3 months later.
I have only received one overweight ticket and that was in OK. I was overweight on an axle in a tridem group. The trooper could have voided my permit(the permit was over $700) and written me for axle weight, axle group weight and overall gross weight fines. The trooper in this case only wrote a single ticket for over on a single axle.Dino soar, Tombstone69, cke and 6 others Thank this. -
I knew it wasn’t your ticket but I thought you posted the article about it. Oh well someone did because I didn’t believe it but I was definitely wrong. They don’t mess around out there.Patilan, cke, stwik and 1 other person Thank this.

That is the case in a ton of states - I have a friend that will run just about anything and has received a number of fines in the $15-40k range. So far he has been able to settle for less but who knows how long his strategy will succeed. He got a $35k in PA down to $4k - told him he should buy a lottery ticket.Dino soar, SuperRookie, cke and 4 others Thank this.

Well Virginia won’t bust you back to legal weight except for two reasons. Not having Minimum number of axles. The other is minimum wheel base. Minimum wheel base is what they got me on. It started as a $9700.00 ticket. 24,000 lbs overweight. If you are just over your permit weight they will credit you for what you bought and write over that.

D. Law-enforcement officials or weight-enforcement officials may invalidate or confiscate a hauling permit if the permitted vehicle or vehicle combination is operating off the route listed on the permit; if the vehicle has fewer axles than required by the permit; if the vehicle has less axle spacing than required by the permit when measured longitudinally from the center of the axle to center axle with any fraction of a foot rounded to the next highest foot; or if the vehicle is transporting multiple items not allowed by the permit.
Correction there is four reasonscke, johndeere4020, stwik and 1 other person Thank this. -

I don’t remember that happening in VA, but it has happened in WI many times. Martin received a ticket there because he was 6” longer than his permit said. Midwest/ATS fought that or took care of it for him.Dino soar, cke, johndeere4020 and 2 others Thank this.
