Did you walk barefoot uphill both ways in the snow to a one room school house everyday?
    Just saying.

Jesus, what a crock. I don't have a clue whay he wanted you to sleep in the top bunk, but maybe he thought he wouldn't be able to hear you whining.
I would like to see the prize fighter or a little girl that thought the pain from riding was the worst they have ever experienced..
My Sin in law, when he decided he wanted to be an OTR driver, I told him to run with me for a year, and if you still want to, I will put you in a truck. Well against my advice he chose the top bunk while I drove, we run hard, we run the alcan and Alaska, frost heaves and rougher roads than you have envisioned. He is five foot nothing and allergic to pain, as in he will not even let them give him a shot, if there is a pill that will do the same thing. While he doesn't like pain, he wasn't a whiner and never mentioned the bunk whooping up on him.
I even threw him out of it on purpose. I didn't slow down for the frost heaves at destruction bay on his first trip north, after bouncing off the roof twice, he missed the bunk on his way back down and crashed to the floor, all the time yelling what the devil are you doing. Lucky he didn't just up and die on me, I reckon.

Not that one, but have been to one in a holler in Eastern Ky. That post was more of a reference I was making geared towards some of those old time view points. “We were tough back in the good old days and now these young whipper snappers are weak” that some still have. There are many great truck drivers, but not all are great Team Drivers. If a team driver does not care about the safety/quality rest of his teammate then he is not a good team driver. I had a new team driver one time that took me through the truck wash while I was sleeping. I asked him if he wanted a clean truck or someone who wouldn’t run this truck off the f*****g road when I took over at 2am. He never took me through the truck wash again and turned out to be the best co-driver I ever had.

I slept in the top bunk. Not easy but I did sleep there. I figured why make waves. I was there for a job. I saw plenty of other candidates not have a job because they were too picky. You want a job or not? Make waves and the company will leave you along the road as there are plenty of other people whom will work or sleep because you wont.

To all those implying, "just suck it up" I get it. Believe me. The issue is we drive primarily bumpy roads. We are not talking just some light bumps, swaying, road vibration, we are talking my entire upper body being bounced and rebounded and then slammed down a foot off the bed. And yes, the forces are like being kicked in the ribs, and when going over one bump, I felt like my neck could snap. When it's good, it feels like a roller coaster ride. Get on a roller coaster and trying going to sleep for the night. No really, try it and report back about, "sucking it up" LOL.

I read about the top bunk and it's not just about safety. The G-forces are 2.5 times to 3 times those created at the floor level of the tractor and the way they bolt the bed into the frames at that height. You feel even the slightest movement and when the moment is road bouncing? Forget it, you'll be hanging on, just to try and not be launched off the bunk. The top bunk is for non moving tractors.

Nobody is gonna sleep on a top bunk of a moving tractor, unless it's down a perfectly smooth highway. I don't care who you are.
