Ok I'm way tired here but...
First there have been about 6 upgrades to this valve since 2006. Second when you install the valve you center the valve and adjust the rod at the bottom. There used to be instructions in the box Volvo sent out, well the last one I did had them. At the bottom of the rod where it attaches to the cross bar you will see 5 holes. They are D shaped
*****Edit note I tried to recreate what the layout looks like but the software wont accept this, sorry*****
As you can see with the spacing layout as you move the rod between holes you change the height. In the kit you will find a small wooden dowel that you put in the valve to center the valve after you adjust the height by hand. Then you install the rod on the bottom to set the final height. That means you find where the bolt lines up the closet to the hole and put it in that hole. The bottom adjuster bolt takes a 10mm wrench. I highly recommend a ratcheting wrench.
So how do you know if your valve has been updated. If its over a year old it's been updated. If its over 3 years old your going to cuss because there is some new plumbing involved. If you've never done the updated valve it will take you about 2 hours at least to do one. I've done at least a dozen and it still takes me an hour to do. And be close to a shower and clean clothes because you will need them.
So what is the measurement for ride height? Volvo's true spec is this, and you won't like or believe it. Ride height is set depending on axle spacing, distance between the drive axles and wheelbase length. If you ask them to fax you a spec sheet its 2 pages long. But the short version (I know I know) is that you want the least amount of difference between the front and rear driveline angles when measured at the yokes on the front drive axle. Acceptable difference is 2 degrees. Preferred is less than 1 degree. So what I do is run the truck back and forth 50~60 feet and dump the air and let it build back up and recheck the angles. Yes I really do have a magnetic angle finder just for this. The fleet I work on has a couple of different versions of the VN Volvo and they both have a different frame height because of the differences in how they were spec'd. So unless someone has a duplicate of you truck what ever measurement you get may not be accurate.Johny41 Thanks this. -
I can a volvo vnl and I need to replace the suspension high level valve, on the top it have 2 port one for are supply and for the bag and on the bottom it have 2 port one for the exhaust port and one for bag.my question is, can the valve be flip around and it has to be like the diagram says to install it?
