Have you tried applying at any local jobs? LTL barns, manufacturing facilities, local gas haulers, etc?

    Update:
    1. So the newbies that are out with trainers are not able to even get an advance; and are getting paid only $40 per day.... note: that that's not even minimum wage.
    2. The drivers that got trucks (two out of his orientation) still do not have loads.
    3. There are still eight drivers waiting for trucks. Oh, my bad... seven... my husband is sitting here in the living room!
It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever that they're hiring drivers but have no trucks!
It makes no sense, and is likely against CA labor law, that drivers are attending orientation with no pa!

All that my husband ended up doing was wasting his time on a company that continues to lie, and lie, and lie! He thought he could go to work and earn some money while waiting out Aug but that turned out to be a wing and prayer and WE is the pure devil - filled with nothing but deceit and not a care about the drivers they're screwing.

We have proof of the fact that Western hired him... Proof of the fact that he passed his physical... And proof of the fact he got nothing but meal cards to McDonald's and Subway.

Bottom line: The trip to Fontana was a waste of time but it was a wake-up call that their poor reputation is 100% well deserved. Sad, so sad for the folks trying to feed their families and make a living. They don't care what happens to these drivers...

Take some time off together and decompress. You two took a shot at something. Stand by him and go do something fun. Nothing about trucks or money. Not today.

Once in a while when confronted with the situation as you described, you two decided to cut the losses and move on. That is something that does happen in trucking. Ive done it. Easy to hire me and easier to lose me over something stupid in the dispatch office.

Long ago owners sometimes took drivers to the seller of trucks and said, pick a truck and lets get loaded lets go. But if you QUIT. I keep that truck.

Those days are gone now has been for decades.

First of all there is a lot of inaccurate information above.

Most trainees get $65 a day X 7 days. You can absolutely get a $45 advance your first week. Those are facts.

I walked into the office and the first thing the on duty DM said to me was “do you need a load”. So this new drivers not getting a load seems odd. Two other drivers were getting loads before the computers went down earlier today. I just walked into the office and took a shower. There’s a DM in there right now getting a driver a load.

Western doesn’t pay orientation pay. That shouldn’t be a surprise.

Western is a starter company and makes no illusions to that. I’ve been there almost a year and make a good check as a trainer and was given a new tractor when I started. I’m not a second chance driver...and I was asked last week by the head of training here if I wanted a new 2020 Cascadia. Of course I said yes. It should be here in the next 2 weeks.

I also PM’d the OP my number and told them to text me and I would walk into the office and ask.

Never got a call or text.

Ok I’m done with this thread.

First of all, you first told me you'd be there in 5 hours and that you weren't sure you could do anything. At the time you did PM me I was at work... worked from 9 am - 7 pm. At work I can't go onto personal business since I'm there to do a job.

You can think things are odd all you want... the truth will set you free though, and you only know things from your perspective. Example: most trainees get $65 per day x 7 days... why would that not be all trainees?

I'm sure you're a good trainer and a good guy, but keep this in perspective: Your good check is a lot based on the miles your trainee drives. There is plenty bad written on the company you're defending. That's not just coming from me.

My husband took the easy way out by not believing in himself enough that he could do better. He hates filling out applications and he hates talking to recruiters. He could have hired on with some decent companies if he wants to drive reefer - he won't do it. He wanted dry van and he wanted regional so he gave it a shot.

Best of luck to you as you go along your way...

    Lonesome and jsnell Thank this.
