I don't know if you're quoting me, but we actually were governed at 68 until last year when they turned all of the trucks up to 70. The speedo shows almost 71, which might be true on new front drive tires. I've been passed by a few of our trucks that I'd guess are touching 72. I never used to see Pitt-Ohio trucks except for on the other side of the interstate. Now I'll pass a couple of you guys through the course of a night.
It's nice, but to me the best part is I can choose my battles to try to stay out of trouble. I actually slow down for construction zones, for instance. I know I make those slower guys mad when a construction zone comes up and they pass me back only to be passed again on the other side, but I'm not gonna go 15+ over in a 45 like some of them do.
That's what I think is the safety fallacy of slow governed trucks. They cause drivers to bunch up and cause rolling road blocks for others and also to take risks to make up time elsewhere. ELDs plus governed trucks is a problem in my opinion. Makes me glad not to do daytime linehaul when there's more congestion. -
yes, i was. just giving you a hard time. it was noticeable when they upped the governor. my truck would run with them before, especially if any change of elevation was involved. now it doesn't matter, i’m way too slow. i agree 100% on the construction zone theory. i think giving the majority of these guys 70 mph means they’d be going 70 through them instead of 65. i don’t see us getting any faster, our guys still manage to get in enough trouble with 67-68 mph. sigh.misterG, Bob Dobalina and Mike2633 Thank this.

I hear ya. They spank us pretty bad for getting the attention of law enforcement in construction zones: 3 days off work (even if it's just a warning). Still, I see some of our guys hammered down through them anyway. I'm convinced some drivers have made a deal with the devil!

My teammate and I have been pulling FedEx doubles a lot recently and had a run in with a contractor. I was riding shotgun when this dude hangs out of his truck and yells “You’re the ****ing problem with the freight! We’re losing loads to you!!!” Along with a few other choice curses. We work for a company who just offered us the gig for a week to cover their normal runners vacation.
The funny thing is when we stopped, he took off. We finished hooking up and went to get the paperwork when we realize the dude we parked next to at linehaul was the same one who yelled. So I go knock on his window and ask what the problem is and all I get is “I’m sorry man I’m just mad at FedEx”, etc.
So is this common in LTL? Lol -
Not sure, but I can certainly see he might get a little out of shape if he’s company and losing work to a contractor.Mike2633 Thanks this.
