im thinking about getting a super 18 dump aka 7 axle super dump where I can federal bridge gross 80k so meaning I can haul close to 26tons at a time ? What should those be paid per hour ? I have a buddy who has a qaud axle making 85-90 hr so I’m curious to see what I should be making per hour and if anybody has one what are you making per hr? Thanks

In Jersey you can make 125$ an hr and up and you only need 4 axles to pull 80k. But then again the cost of living is 3 times what it is anywhere else.

    iamfargo Thanks this.

Depends on where your at. Used to haul 26 tons in a Triaxle all the time. Not on the Big road, but State Hwy's.
All the guys here with Quads in Tn now. Run the Interstates with them. Know its going to be fun when the tickets start popping up.

It all depends on where you want to work, and who you work for the Hourly rate for a super 10 in San Diego is 115 hr { 4 Axel dump } but there are guys working for 95 hr because they are working for the wrong broker or they suck as a business, undependable truck or driver. If there are multiple trucks on a job and the rest average 75 min a load and it takes you 85 min a load you will not be back The things I see that hurt peoples average are stoping for fuel, lunch, bathroom breaks and not using a GPS to avoid traffic every round. your area may be different, you will want to ask around your area and find out who not to work for everyone will tell you who sucks they may not be willing to tell you who the best company is.

Where I’m from super tens make 85-90 hr on the south east so I’m assuming if I can get 125-140 hr for a super 18 ??? And where you are I’m assuming a super 18 maybe 150 hr ?

In Calif adding more than 1 extra Axel to a dump truck does not allow us to haul more weight. It works something like this if you add a drop Axel to a truck with a 220 inch wheel base you can carry an extra 8k pounds so this combo can legal 56k but for every foot of wheel base we can carry an extra 500 pounds and every 3rd foot an extra 500 pound. So if you have a truck with a 256 inch wheel base you can legal 58k but you also add about 800 pounds of dump box and frame we have some ill handling and riding truck configurations to haul more weight the super tag and the 4 Axel booster, my truck can legal 15 tons a super tag hauls about 18 tons and the booster hauls 20 tons.but they don't always make more money than me they work by the ton more than hourly and that does not always work out well, I gave up hauling Asphalt and sand and gravel by the ton 25 years ago.

California ya a totally different way of measuring gvw and axle count. It more so by wheelbase I believe. I never see anything more than 4 axles. I know my trucks have been cited and/or the gvw brought down whenever we work in cali. We have all super 18s and simple 16s here in Vegas. Locally we charge 125$ an hour. Anything out of town will vary plus per diem. What we pay when we broker? 75-80$ an hour. Depends

Also rates will vary on whoever you work for. New to the game? You’ll get the bare minimum anyone is paying. I doubt you’ll get top dollar out of the gate unless you find your own work thru your own contacts. Never agree to nothing that ain’t black and white and signed!

Cost of living is high cause of the property taxes. Honestly just live in PA and work in NJ. That’s what many of the folks do. Still expensive but way cheaper than living in Nj

Another thing to watch for and avoid is "winter rates". If some company or broker gives you the old "well, it's winter and things are slow and there's a lot of trucks so we're not paying full rate" tell him to keep his hauling.
Be aware though, that there are always a lot of greedy and hungry drivers who will haul for winter rates.
Dump trucking is very competitive and it's very competitive every day.
