I would guess the CDL study guide reference to bearings would be the minimum one inch of 70-90 weight in axle hubs.

When you see a steep mountain decline with a sign that says use low gear there is a very good reason for that, for an 18 speed i'd recommend using 3rd gear it must be a gear that you can go down the mountain with out touching your brakes.

3rd gear, even the crappy jake on my cat will do much better than that, but I rarely go off slow enough to not touch the brakes either.

I learn every day. A little something. Sometimes even relearn, which is more often.

I am not the driver I was in those days, more cold and calculating of the time-distance problem vs load and abilities of the trip, weather and terrain. It never stops. Risk management is another.

You do not burn yourself out. You take time where is, when is for yourself. Regularly. I lost a good company due to burn out in 98. But gained a future here and changed the situation. That company could have sent me home a month and saved the trouble of replacing me, however there was dollars and costs so it's cheaper to replace me.

Assess your threats. People are not as good as they were then. And I think a stressed Society in some areas is increasing threat levels to you, if they only knew about the narcotics in that box upwards of a million.

Fuel. IS life. I don't care what anyone in company says about cost. As long you have half tanks and fuel in winter always it is life. It's cheaper to spend 200 in fuel staying safe if necessary rather than god knows how many retrieving a dead driver and truck.

Have your papers in order, adequate insurance, will, burial process, paid for have a living will with you plus additional instructions so that your Patient advocate in a hospital 2000 miles from home can almost function as your relative while you endure trauma, er etc. My ER Visits were very common to trauma.

I pay the price for that now aging 20 plus years ahead of schedule.

That means setting aside savings out of every load. You will not be trucking forever. What does it serve you to squander today's 1000 if you have nothing and medical bills a decade later?

    And so on.

Take joy in the Nation and wherever you go. Learn the local history and people will make sense to you.

Find a Mobile Chapel or similar house of worship and give thanks for your successes and trivals regularly in the trucking, it is not all you that does this. Im not trying to preach or push a belief system, but without one and it's 3 feet of howling snow and 40 hours until the next place of reasonable refuge at 5 mph you will need a form of stamina.

Never mind that today's trucks seem unable to endure three inches without spinning. It disgusts me.

Alot of things bothered me. Let it go. It will eat you up.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
