    Hey everyone,

I'm new to the industry. I've been considering getting my CDL for a few years now. I almost joined Swift a few years back, but decided to go a different route. Now here I am with a felony conviction (non-violent and non-drug/dui related) and I'm still on probation. Obviously getting a company to hire me with my criminal past and being on probation was hard, but I've managed to do pretty well after loads of calling and whatnot. I've managed to get my CDL paid for in full by a local county organization. I'll be attending a 6 week CDL program later this month, and then I'll be going off to Carolina Cargo.

Both my family and my girlfriend are very proud of me so far, and I'm taking this very seriously. I've been lurking in the forums here, on Reddit, and Youtube for quite some time and soaking in all the information I can.

I'll be updating this thread regularly from the start of school through my first few weeks at Carolina Cargo. If any other people are in a similar situation as mine and are looking for someone to share experiences with or ask questions, feel free to hit me up. :)

Carolina Cargo has changed their pay structure, so you can make decent paychecks there.
PI&I Motor Express hires ex-convicts and felons also. PI&I is Teamsters so that can be aggravating for drivers with little to no seniority.
Keep up the good work and enjoy those hard running California trips.
At least with Carolina Cargo you won't be getting bumped off runs because you're new like can happen with union outfits.

    Old-school trucker Thanks this.

Good luck and I'm rooting for you. I'm glad to see you are moving forward and not making excuses. Work hard, be willing to learn and you will go far.
