You should not even have to ask.
Actually, try going past (skip, run) when it is open and let us know what happens.
Isn't the motto with the current generations... NO FEAR!
?rabbiporkchop, Diesel Dave and mhyn Thank this. -
I had a friend that bought two transfer beds and trailers in Cali. he drove one of the trucks he wanted it mounted on over there. He called ahead to banning and found out just what he needed to be legal.
When he got there they basicaly told him pull over there WE LIED, they shut him down, and made him buy some permits , plus 900 bucks for something and he had no choice but to go back two weeks later and go to court, the a fine. lol
he called me and told me he would never cross that line again as long as he lived. I told him it wasn't like he had a choice he still had to get the stuff he bought.
He then told me he had a fiend that pulled a step that would gladly deliver them to him, yep I hauled them out of cali for him.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
That sucks!

I really wonder about all the horror stories with the scale houses in so many states.
In over 8 years I have never had a problem with any of them. They have always been professional and have treated me with respect.faux_maestro, Smut, HoneyBadger67 and 2 others Thank this. -
I don’t know either. I’m a local driver and have never had to pass through any scales because we don’t travel far at all. I didn’t stop at the scale going eastbound in Banning and am worried if maybe they have cameras.

You would sure think to hear im talk. lol
Icalled the NM scales to make sure I would be legal with a long oversize. When I got there, it was all different from what this certain female dot had told me, and she could not even get what I needed, I called her out on it and she told me she would tell us anything, that she didn't have time to be messing with truckers. Wrong thing to say, between me getting a mad on and her not being smart enough to get me the permit I needed ( which I was steady reminding her of) and the sargeant getting on her case, she finally just burst into tears. -
Really? That’s insane! Good thing you stood your ground though.
-
That may be a case for... Do not trust anyone you speak to.
Check the regs before you head out so you are in compliance.
?
If you are running a long oversize load, should you not be knowledgeable of what is required to run legally in every state you will go through, before you start driving? -
I don't really recall ever stopping east bound, but if they didn't chase you down you are golden.
If you think about it, with an average 20 years ago of 6.000 trucks a day on I-40 and real close to double that across I-10. This is NM numbers. what is the actual chance of one truck getting hassled? I mean it is almost like winning the lottery, unless you do. lol Now there again. many of them are nice professional guys, but a few are pricks delux, so hopefully more of the nice guys , so your chances goes up even more.
We had some there at the San Jon scales that were great guys on and off duty, we had some that were great guys off duty and 14 karat pricks on duty, and we had some that were just purdy 100 % pricks 100% of the time. This from knowing them personally and professionally both. I am sure other scales will vary, but they did not fire every swinging, well you know at one time at the Anthony NM scales for nothing.
Supposedly the feds busted banning (west) years ago for setting up violations on trucks. Lordsburg NM also had a bad reputation.
I am yes sir, no sir to them as long as they treat me respectable, but can be just as onery as they can if they want it that way.
