A couple of years ago for some reason they decked some logs on the top of an extreme grade. You had to back up it to the loader.
When I looked at I knew one other truck had hauled a load off of it. I ask the logging co owner if he made it up without chains, he told me he didn't make it with chains, they had to pull him, but he thought I might be able to.
Well I did, stopped right at the loader, but when the loader lifted my trailer off the truck, I took off sliding back down faster than I had come up without the weight for traction.
The owner was walking up in the midddle of the road, looking down and not seeing me coming, I honked and he dove off in the snow. lol
I went all the way back down, and he walked back down and helped me chain, saying it was funny since it was over and no one hurt. lol
Without my trailer weight, I did not make it up with chains either. lol -
I'll let you know when my first time happens, but I don't intend on their ever being a first time. Just in case, I carry the tire socks to be legal, but they've never been used.

When I ran the lower 48 I carried a couple of sets of the tire cables in the boxes they came in because they were light . for years.
One of the boxes finally started coming apart, they were rusted beyond any use. lol -
I never chain up, always chain down.

The only time i chain is if i start fishtailing going up a hill with drives locked. If i dont slip, i go barefoot every time.

I first chained up at home just so I could see how to do it. I thought I did pretty good so when I started up Donner past the Applegate chain check I was ready to go. Sure was a big difference putting them on in 28 degree weather with heavy wet snow then it was in Texas on that warm sunny day dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. I learned a lot that day.
