Is this a violation/oos when air leaves the exhaust port on this piece? I don’t know exactly what this piece is called, the manifold that’s on the firewall. I was checking for air leaks with applied brakes today and there’s a slight air escape on the exhaust port.

    Thanks

IF you are at that level of detail on pretrips, it's commendable. But you are losing the whole forest for such detail.

If you are really worried about that little device, whistle up a company mechanic to come look at it. Could be something could be nothing.

It's not a DOT Item or OOS. That seal is there to keep stuff out when it's not passing something.

    Disclaimer.

Ive been out from OTR many years. It is really dangerous to show me modern trucks at that detail. Because Im half tempted to just say NOPE. Dont need this, don't know that, toss these, forget them etc. and end up with a pile of parts not vital to driving to delivery.

Out of service no. As long as you are within the allowable air loose per minute you are good to go. Is it correct? No. Get it fixed when it fits in your schedule ASAP.

That is the exhaust port on a new fangledie foot valve. Just turn it a 1/4 turn and put it under the floor board of one of those cab overs you drove. Same basic thing.

I was getting to that. Once in the while the older valves under the service braking in the old iron would have some trouble. Ty for input. With that in mind I would still have a shop mechanic take a look see. Cannot be too safe.

That Area Is Supposed To Let air Escape, You Can Tell By The Rubber Piece. you can check if it's letting too much air out or at the wrong time, ask a good shop mechanic.

It's a dust cover. If you do the applied air brakes pressure test and it passes your good to go. I don't see anything wrong. It's suppose to let air out when you take foot off the brake pedal. Unless I'm missing something.

If it is leaking and it is audible, it is oos. If audible overpowers allowable.

Hmmm. So even on an exhaust port? I know push fittings are not oos if audible but the other style is, the compressed style fittings.

That is to allow air out when you disengage your foot pedal. If it is leaking while depressing your foot pedal then something is wrong (if you sissy foot depress it it might leak also so apply it like you would to stop). I have seen valves on the rear of truck bleed back and cause this and I have seen the foot valve be bad.
