That plastic tee for the heater core cooks right above turbo and gets brittle. I stuck a galvanized back in

The fact that they used a plastic tee instead of a brass one in an area like that makes me wonder about the build quality of the rest of the truck.

I agree it's stupid. and the rubber hoses that run from it have a heatshield,,,,! it's bypassed for now and I will fix it right when I get home..

I'm not even sure who I'm domiciled to. They did call me but I don't remember who it was. I was just coming out of orientation & my brain was already smoking. I'm in my 2nd week (4th load) & I think I'm really going to like it here. Still trying to figure things out but I'm doing ok to start out I think.

I spent over $40k on my truck in repairs 1st year, including an engine overhaul 6 mths and 50k miles into it. I looked it over well and had it dyno and blow by tested. I was also an ASE master tech on cars for over 10 years and had truck repair experience so I looked around a lot and thought I bought a good truck. It can definitely happen.

I've actually changed my mind on purchasing a truck to head to Landstar at the end of the year due to the fact that for a variety of reasons I won't be able to put away as much in savings as I had planned. I'm not comfortable buying a new truck that I'm stuck with and leasing onto a new carrier that I have no experience with if I don't have a significant amount in the bank. I'm thinking I may try to go over to ATS and do their 1 year lease program. That way I can rent a truck without putting up my savings as a down payment, and have the option to turn in the rental at will if the new carrier doesn't live up to my expectations. I know several people that have gone to ATS and been satisfied with their job and checks.

Why not just get qualified with Landstar and then drive for a BCO. It will give you good insight into how Landstar works and then you can add your own truck on and become a BCO yourself later.

Do not fall into one of these rental-lease programs that appear you can just walk away from without hurting you financially big time!

I'm in a rental-lease right now at a different carrier, and believe me, I know the potential pitfalls. There's no chance I'd get into a rental lease without both I and my attorney scouring every word of the lease agreement to avoid the "surprises" that are all too common. I'm a firm believer that rental leases can be a good thing, but they can also be a huge albatross if you jump into the wrong one willy-nilly.
