What will happen is they will give you a road test and backing test. See where you are skill wise. You could be out with a trainer for 6 weeks, but if you do well and they are comfortable with how you handle the truck, it could be a lot less time. Some drivers right out of school, even though they might be ready earlier, need to get the required number of miles set by insurance. It's around the 10k-11k mark.
If you already have work experience, they may take those miles into account as long as you have proof of those miles. If that's the case, if you do well, you wouldn't need to do the 30 days/10k required amount.

An update on my mileage too:
The past two weeks have been bad for me, but its solely because I had a sick kitty to take care of. I took 5 days off for vet appts, her hospitalization, and aftercare. When I was ready to go, they got me back out asap. I started on Tuesday and have a bit over 1k miles for this week, with the weekend running me another 1,100.
Grand Forks, ND to Janesville, WI. I dropped a load off to another driver to get him home, otherwise it went to PA. I was willing to take the loss to help another driver. 625 miles.
I then had to deadhead over to Union, MI to start a multi-pick run. Union, MI and two in Elkhart, IN. Brought them down to Shepherdsville, KY. 566 miles for the day it took to do it all. I get the extra money per pick too, so another 40 bucks for two picks within 8 miles of each other.
I'm being reloaded where I dropped here in Shepherdsville, KY and taking this load up to Crookston, MN. 1,100 or so miles due by Monday at 7 am. Hoping this next week will get me back up mileage wise and back on track after having to take so much time off. -

Stock up for at least two months on cat food and litter. You never know what will happen on the road, and you dont want to switch to a truck stop cheap brand immediately. Could upset their GI system.Bluedew and Metallica88 Thank this. -
I have no choice but to bring my cat with me on the road. I'm just nervous he wont like the truck and maybe try and dash when I open the doors.
Thank you for the tips and happy motoring. -
My dad used to have a cat with him on the road. He was going through a scale and the cat jumped on his shoulder he picked the cat up and tossed it to the passenger side. He forgot he had the window open. Out the window the cat went lol
JoeyJunk and Metallica88 Thank this. -
Give him time to adjust. My cat jumped out once when I had my back turned and she wanted right back in the truck. Hasnt tried since. Some cats will adapt pretty fast. I worry about my dog jumping out more now lol.JoeyJunk and Metallica88 Thank this. -
Nothing sadder out here than the strays looking for the right truck.JoeyJunk, Metallica88 and LDYTRUCKER Thank this. -
After my time at home last week. I got a load from Anniston to Jamestown back to Anniston. After I delivered to Anniston, I deadheaded to Lawrenceburg, TN to pick up a load the next day. It was supposed to be a 2 stop load, Pembina and Winnipeg, but the customer said that the Winnipeg load won t be ready until Monday. So I took 1-500 pound pallet 1300 miles to the yard, and dropped it.
Now I wait until Monday to pick up a load in Euclid MN going to Angola, NY for Wednesday. More than likely I will get sent to Jamestown, Lakewood, or Salamanca to pick up afterwards.Metallica88 Thanks this.
