My fleet manager tried to get me to go percentage too, but the company failed to get me the information I needed to make that decision. I think they are pushing percentage hard right now because the cost of freight right now is way down. In the slow economy shippers have the power to drive down the fees that they are willing to pay to ship freight which is how your pay is determined with percentage. Also TMC can reduce your pay on percentage by brokering your load through one of their sister companies which takes 10-20% off the top before your percentage is figured in. It also benefits the company to be able to assign loads to drivers depending on how they earn their money. I hauled a load that paid $4200 to the truck and was 2300 miles last week, on percentage that would have paid the lowest percentage guy about a grand, and an experienced driver close to a grand on mileage pay, but I got the load and it cost them less than $700. I'm not complaining because it was a great load to catch, but if I was one of the guys who would have made better money on the load I'd be pissed. Still, you can do a LOT worse than TMC I think for a place to find yourself employed. I've been kept real busy, I don't know how much that is a function of my low mileage pay or that they have a bunch of freight, but I know for sure I've seen a lot more trucks from Swift, Celadon, CFI and Covenant parked than I've seen from TMC. So far it's not a bad place to put in your first year.

I see what you're saying, I just remember Rawlco saying he always came out better on percentage. Sounds like its one big crapshoot. What do you know about freight in the southeast? I would love to be able to get home every weekend but if the freight is bad in this area I know it would make it tough. I confirmed my orientation date for the 20th so I guess I'm all set. After sitting at the house going insane, I am definitely ready to go this time around.

Its not over , looks like TMC still wants more money from me. I went to check to see if TMC was going to refund my $100 deposit for the Pre-pass. And they did, but took it from me at the same time. And theres also other new deductions not taken on this current pay stub that were not on the last one. Surprise Surprise I'll let you know if they send me a bill.

Some will say they want the money they put out for my orientation. But my thoughts are this. They let a lot of people go in the last few days of the 2 week orientation (5 on the second to last day), I doubt they are going after them for any expenses and they already spent the same money on them, so why are they going after someone like me? They made decent money when I worked with my trainer for 5 weeks, we did a lot of runs 1 driver couldn't do legally. Also my time on my own they made money since I was at base rate. Doesn't seem fair and kinda shady even though its legal. Never seen any job do something like this.

I guess TMC's logic will be they kicked those people out so it isn't technically their fault. I guess its cut throat either way. Get kicked out now and keep the pay or stay and when you quit we will take a chunk out of your ##### then.....:biggrin_2554:. With so many people quitting they probably make a good living skimming checks at the end.

I'll let you guys know if they try to get more money out of me. My friend who been a trucker for 20 years said they were making a ton off me since the start of my 5 week training, and for them to do this is complete BS. Its greed really.

Wow, I applied to TMC this morning, but after reading this, I wont be following thru on that.

I make 600 take home on a slow week and the only time I have sat more than a couple hours was at home.
I live Hundreds of miles away from a good freight line.
Doesn't help that most loads only go 100-300 miles in my area.
Most east coast drivers fear the open road and leaving home for to long I guess.

My current company keeps me moving on 90% 2000 mile or higher loads with the remainder at 1200-1700.

I get great tarp pay and load unload pay.
Im just having a real hard time with equipment.
I have the oldest truck in my division and im sure my ragged out trailer is up there in years too.

I feel if a company is anti Idle and has you on the road weeks at a time then an APU is needed.
    I don't have one.

We have drivers running shortline and local with some of the companies newest trucks, while us guys staying out 4 and 5 weeks a pop and running the miles are in old ragged out trucks.

Either way I think Id rather send home a good check and deal with what I have out on the road than make 400 a week and hold financial responsibility on a truck when my name isn't on the title.

TMC sounds like a pack of greedy scam artists who's greed is finally getting the best of them.

    Drive-a-Mack Thanks this.

Last time I talked to TMC they dont bring ANYONE in on the cpm now. The only way you are hired is on % of load.
