Hello everyone. I am new to trucking. Always wanted to try it out, however my wife always wanted me to wait until kids were older. Well, the kids are a little older now and the economy has retired me from construction. I just completed a 160 hour course and got my Class A. I have two job offers, Prime Inc. and H.O. Wolding. I have a week to decide where I am going. Very nervous starting all over again.

Good luck newbe and welcome to this forum, lots of good info for you to be able to understand the world of truck'in, and good advice from drivers who know and been there when they first started. The two companies you mentioned are otr. You'll be gone 2 to 4 weeks at a time so I hope you and your wife have talked alot about your new choice of living. It'll be rough the first couple of years of driving and you are not going to break the bank money wise either. I hope your passion for this kind of work is strong and deep. If not and you thought it would be cool to try, disapointment and frustration will be a harsh reallity check for you my friend. Its just not about the driving thats why so many try it with excitment and eagerness then bail when they find out just how hard it is to make it in this line of work.So good luck keep the faith and I hope it works out for you drivrer.

thanks for the reply. i do realize that it is a lot of hard work. That is all i have been doing most of my life. i have never had the decent education to get a really good job. always enjoyed building houses. now that is stopping. i like to drive and i do like hard work. makes me feel good knowing that i can do it. i know that being on the road is going to be different and the wife and i have talked it over quite a bit. neither one of us sees any other way to go right now. prime has offered me work as well as h o wolding. just trying to decide which one to go with. prime seems like a bigger company, however, h o w seems more FAMILY oriented. smaller company with less drivers. thanks for the reply
