I have no idea where you're getting your information, but it's very far from reality.
The "pay structure", as you call it, is fairly simple. Most loads are paid by percentage. The rate of the load, the percentage of pay for the driver, and the amount paid to the driver is on every pay statement. Some loads are paid hourly. On the pay statement is shown amount of pay per hour, number of hours, and total pay for the load. There are some flat rate paid loads. Again, it's clearly stated on each pay statement. Nothing "complex" about it, provided one possesses rudimentary math and reading skills.
The "terminal to first customer on the driver's dime" is ludicrous, and makes no sense on its face. In other words, your statement there is totally incorrect.
We DO get layover and breakdown pay. I've been with Tidewater over six years and I've received layover and breakdown pay each and every time I've put in for it. We also are paid for 34hr break should we have to take one on the road. Also, drop a dirty tank and hook to a clean one at a tank wash? Get an hour of pay just for that. If we wait for a tank to be washed, we're paid for our time. There's also a monthly safety bonus (paid quarterly), as well as driver referral bonuses available. All of these types of pay are clearly shown on each pay statement. Not very complex at all.
Our trucks are NOT "governed below 65", but are governed at 68.
It would seem you need a better radar, sir.
