Does any driving for the day constitute needing 10hr off duty to restart? My 34 reset is up at 9:30pm and I would like to drive 2 hr towards drop off but it’s pointless if I have to wait 10hr tonight to finish it up tomorrow morning. Basically I have a full day tomorrow and would like to use some time today to have my full 11/14 tomorrow to use.

If you're loaded and going to a drop off then you have to legally be on line 3. If you're on paper logs obviously this can be fudged. No way to do it with an eld.

If you think trucking is pointless when people are in need of your freight go home already. /half teasing.

When you start a workday 11/14 that clock starts ticking. It aint stopping until you either burn it out, go to bed or go home for the day. (Night)

You can go on duty at 9:30pm and then you have 14 hrs until you have to take a 10 hr break. Or dive that 2 hr then tale 10 and start again. But any time on duty, driving or not would require a 10 to get your full 14 back. Of course there is the split break. You could drive some, then go to the sleeper berth for 8 hrs and have the remaining hr left.

What do you mean by any? You can use personal conveyance to do something personal, like go to a grocery store for some shopping. Can't use to to boogie 3 hours down the road closer to your destination and then go shopping.

Thanks for all the replies. This is my 2nd week so I’d rather ask a dumb question than get busted by DOT for something stupid and put OOS and fines.

I’m decided to just head out early tomorrow instead of trying to split it up. I’m learning how to be efficient with my clock.

Given that you were already like 24 hours into your 34 it makes more sense just to finish it up than drive 2 hours and have to start a whole new 34
