Help me understand some weight numbers?

Perfect. 4.10's & Aisin auto is a great setup from what I hear.

Where I live there is a tier system for IRP.
So 26,001-30,000lbs cost the same.
30,001-36,000 is the same.
36,001-40,000 cost the same. I noticed lots of hotshots tagging @ 40,000lbs now. Maybe do that.? Or to save some cash if your newer 4car is light enough just go for 36k. No reason to pay for weight you'll never actually use..

 

Don't encourage him. 80K will break his truck and trailer.

If you load more than what you are paying for on the tags by weight, then that's going to be a enforcement issue me thinks.

 

LoL.. agreed, 80k is way to much but the gov't will gladly take the money if that's how you want to register..

And yes, I was trying to say the same if it wasn't clear. Don't exceed the amount of weight that you paid for, & don't exceed the axle, or tire ratings..

Luckily Chrysler has not stamped a GCWR in the door jam, or anywhere on the truck for that matter. IMO because it's a suggestion. My 2012 ram 6.7L 3.73 g56 dually only had a 21,000 GCWR. It lived between 27k-35k & did a fine job.

 

The only thing your overlooking is you don't have to register for 39k if you don't want to. Your truck probably only weighs about 9000lbs give or take. So 25k trailer + 9k truck & your only at 34k gross weight. Tag for 35k or 36k & save yourself a few bucks..

Right now my truck is 32k, & my trailer is 24k. Add that up is 56k.
I'm only plated for 50k because 56k is just weight I can't use, so would be wasted money in registration fees.. I might even drop it this year because I can't get over 46,500lbs without overloading the neck on my trailer..

 

Wow, that's a heavyweight trailer!! Most wedges, 4car stacker, even the mini5 are all only about 9k empty.. 18,000 freight weight, +12,000 trailer tare= 30,000, or an overloaded trailer in the eyes of the dot...

A problem you may run into is some trailers have a load capacity label next to the GVWR sticker. This label will show gvwr minus the trailer tare weight, leaving you with a load capacity. In your case, it may clearly show only 13,000 load capacity. If dot man compares this with your bol's with four 4,500 vehicles you may get shutdown. Just a heads up. If it does not have a capacity label, no one will be the wiser..
