If you pull a van trailer & your behind a flatbed on a CAT scale don't assume that when the flatbeder pulls forward that he is completely done scaling. Since a majority of flatbed trailers are spread axle we can also scale our spread to get an accurate weight for those 2 axles. So hence this story, when I told the driver to back off the scale he got upset & started throwing his hands up in the air like I did something wrong. Oh hears a good one even if your 60 years old came out of retirement & thought trucking is a fun thing to do so you can see the world...someone lied to you, it's a real profession where you need common sense. My 2 cents you guys be safe out there !
You can always learn something new !

My wife thinks trucking is fun, it’s far from it.

I always wait till the person is off scale and pulling away. That gives time for the scale to zero out for my weight also. Most everyone is in a big hurry?Lumper Humper, Moosetek13, Cattleman84 and 4 others Thank this.

I never really split my spread on the cat scales. Unless im close to 40k total.. It seems pointless most of the time and a big hassle becsuse the scale ppl dont know what a spread axle is or how to weigh it.. I cant think of many times where my axles where more than 1k-2k apart .. Even then if ur good on gross for them togetber and gross for overall weight i think most scalehouses will look the other way.. Ive pulled 21k on front of spread and 19k on back of spread and ran it through 3scales and weighed out for everbody to see and never once got the red light to park... But yeah i agree with u them van guys need to back off

I have been 3000 under gross and had co nail me PLUS make me get it right for being 20 pounds, that is 20 pounds over on an axle on a spread.
In the spring time here when snow is melting I have to call in make sure they zero the scales before I get on it. I have weighed and seen it as much as 7,000 pounds off before.Rideandrepair and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Your right about the cashiers screwing up the split weight, that's why I just use the CAT App & do it myself...QuietStorm, JoeyJunk, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

I don’t use scales, scales are for rookies, Lol, well once in a while I do.
-
Actually it can be, and is not bad if you truck in the circles you enjoy.
I do, i like to see how overloaded I am. lol
If I am hauling logs, I have my own scales, but have to weigh at the truckstop anyway to give a scale ticket to the mill. groan.
If II am hauling freight, lynden has scales and I weigh, if I am anywhere close or heavy. For some reason they like to overload the front of vans and reefers, of course I always pull the last load of the day, they are either leaving when I weigh or have left.
We also charge them more for heavy loads, past a cetain point.Dan.S and Rideandrepair Thank this.
