This thing look like it's gotten wet to you guys? (the oxidization / rust on the connectors)

Correct,my new 77 4300 had a small cam,wasn't long after that they came out with the Big Cam 1. Not a hell of a lot of difference,I actually preferred my small cam,it still had the compression release. Nice feature when your stretching old batteries. Got close to 1.7 mill on my small cam,crank was never out of the block,normal overhauls,but did have to put a cam in it once. Not bad for twenty years of all season cross country work. Sold it in 98,was running great,might still be going somewhere.
One reason they ran so good,and were dependable,they had zero emissions controls.

That oxidation could just be from the flux in the solder. It's very common. To do a really proper clean up job on solder connections you need to use isopropyl alcohol and scrub it off with an acid brush, but even then you're not getting rid of all of it. The alcohol dilutes the flux and as it evaporates it removes most of the flux but some remains. That doesn't really look abnormal. The actual connections should look smooth and shiny like chrome when they are new. If it looks pitted you might have a "cold solder joint ".

Just a suggestion.

 

Picked up a load home - broker "didn't have the pickup and delivery addresses" until he got paperwork from the customer.. Uh huh, I know how these "pick up check and send in the provided UPS prepaid envelope" loads go. "Are you sure this is business to business? I really don't want to find out I'm delivering some residential in the middle of nowhere on a Friday when I could be home." He gave me the classic "yep, b2b, strap and go 41 miles, easy offload" haha.

Yeah, I was right.



87.8 miles later...



Luckily a bridge replacement was just completed and I could take the easy route. Otherwise I'd have had to go in the back roads haha.

I love flatbedding. In just a couple of months, I've seen more of the country than I did in a million miles pulling van - but I do have to admit, if I didn't know the area, this load would have really stressed me out.

 

I guess next thing is clean up the pool now that it’s uncovered , I still say it would make a good garage floor once filled in......
